Community
Pupils of Pembroke Dock Community School, enjoy a wide range of activities in our community and we make an effort to be as involved as possible. Each year group has a link to a senior citizen club or residential home. Pupils visit once a term to talk and to entertain our elderly friends.A large number of Senior Citizens are invited to school, at Christmas and in March, to be entertained by Year 5 and 6 pupils. After the entertainment, Schools Council members serve tea and biscuits, and a tour of the school follows.

The school choir perform at a number of community concerts. The annual Toy Service, held at Trinity Church, is important to us as presents and money are collected for Pembrokeshire’s less privileged children at this service.
St John’s Choral Festival is also an annual event, which is a celebration of song enjoyed by parents, families and members of the community. Pupils represented our school by laying the school wreath at St. John’s War memorial on Remembrance Sunday in November.

Every year, the pupils are involved in a 'Shoebox Appeal', organised by our friend Pastor Huw Michael, from the local Zion Church. In 2007 and 2008, we collected an amazing amount of boxes!
The After School Rugby Club helped pack customer bags in Asda to raise money for, and community awareness of, breast cancer. International Welsh rugby player, Dafydd Jones, helped us. He plays for the Llanelli Scarlets and Wales.
Community artists regularly work with our pupils for local events. Puppets were made on the theme of ‘A Midsummer’s Nights Dream’ for the Midsummer Festival parade in Pembroke Dock in June. Willow lanterns were made for the Festival of Light parade in December.

Our local Health Centre asked us to paint two murals on the walls in the new surgery in Argyle Street. We were very pleased to help on this project, as this is our local surgery. A ‘Wind in the Willows’ mural was chosen for one wall and a scene of Pembroke Dock on another. Everyone was most impressed with our work.
A group of staff and pupils were recently invited to the official opening of the new surgery; now called 'The Argyle Medical Centre'. We met Welsh rugby international Jonathan Thomas, who has strong local connections. Click on the image below to watch a presentation about the day.
Enterprise is our focus in school this year. We have started a Food Co-operative supported by the Rural Regeneration Unit. Our pupils take orders, weigh and pack bags of fruit and vegetables produced by local farmers and sell to parents and staff.
The Community First project – Springboard – uses our school to hold adult learning courses. Many that attend are pupils’ parents. Courses on offer are pottery, computer skills, reflexology, healthy lifestyle, cooking, and family literacy. For more information about Springboard please click the link below.
