School Council

Pembroke Dock Community School hold secret ballot elections for School Council (SC) members, each September.  One member from each class, in Year 1 to Year 6, are elected. They meet every half term to discuss areas of concern and are able to voice their opinions. During Class Council, SC members record issues for debate or discussion in a Class Council book, which is collected by the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary who then draws up an agenda from this for the next SC meeting.

The minutes of the meeting are emailed to all teachers. SC report back to Class Council. There is a link teacher in attendance at each meeting and SC also meet with the School Catering Manager, Site Manager, Headteacher, School Link Governor and teaching staff.

SC members write an Action Plan at the beginning of each academic year in order to identify their way forward for the forthcoming year. Pupils can put suggestions for discussion at meetings into Listening Boxes in the classrooms.

SC members handle a budget that is used for the pupils reward system.
They have ordered playground equipment for all year groups with money from Healthy Schools.
The SC gives pupils the opportunity to practise skills such as working in a group, representing others and can make important changes in the school community
