At Pembroke Dock Community School, we aim to provide as much effective and meaningful inclusion as possible. However, there are occasions when small group specialist support is necessary, in order to develop the skills required for pupils to become more independent learners within the classroom and gain increased access to the mainstream curriculum.

The focus of these groups is on developing speech and language and basic skills, within an environment which reflects nurturing principles.

The ethos of these groups enables ALL pupils to access the highly specialist and differentiated curriculum and offers totally inclusive practice. The group provides a more appropriate base for learning where the curriculum is meaningful, relevant and at a level appropriate to the development of each child. This is achieved through the high level of skilled support within the group.

Appropriate, meaningful and purposeful access to mainstream is based on a planned, phased individual integration programme and at a time when the pupil is ready. The amount of mainstream integration will be dependent on the individual needs of each pupil.

These groups offer pupils a wide variety of activities and meaningful experiences with a practical 'hands on' curriculum that is delivered by highly trained staff at an approriate level. Click the individual group links for more information on each group.
